Spiritual Literature for the Wandering Soul

Every book I read when I travel impacts me more profoundly than those I read at home. Perhaps the fresh landscape piques my attention, perhaps I give myself more permission to relax and enjoy because I am on vacation, or perhaps, maybe, as I travel my brain is actually changing as I adapt, act and react to new challenges and experiences.

At a fundamental level, traveling should give us time for self-reflection, space for reading and self-development, and worldliness to bring back home with us and alter how we live. These are my 10 books to help make every journey count, because, as writer Lillian Smith so astutely noticed, “…no journey carries one far unless, as it extends into the world around us, it goes an equal distance into the world within.”
